Recognize the stars of Georgia’s developmentally disabled community by participating in the nomination process for Georgia Community Support & Solutions’s GOLDEN GOALS AWARDS! We will host a night with the stars and give special achievement awards to those members of our community who have shined over the past year. The Golden Goals Awards will take place Thursday, Oct. 6 at 6 pm at the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta.

GOLDEN GOALS AWARD CATEGORIES:

Mr. Golden Goals and Ms. Golden Goals will be presented to the best all-around male and female. These individuals have excelled in all areas and demonstrate continued progress and initiative toward overcoming daily challenges with language, attitude, skill development, work and relationships.

Best Performing Actor and Actress will be presented to the individual(s) with the greatest advancement in one of particular areas mentioned above.

Best New Star or Starlette will be presented to an up-and-coming new “Actor” or “Actress” in the developmental disability community who has been receiving support for less than one year and has shown an amazing ability to overcome life’s challenges. These individuals may have recently moved into a
day program, a supported employment program or a residential program for the first time this year.

Mr. and Ms. Congeniality will be presented to both a male and female who have strong character, great spirit and are highly compatible with others. These individuals often volunteer in the community and perform duties beyond what is expected.

Best Art and Design Male/Female will be presented to both a male and female who exhibit exceptional skills in the areas of the arts (dance, design, drawing, etc.)

Best Ensemble Cast will be presented to two individuals who create the best team for success. This award will go to a team comprised of a person within the advocacy community (teacher, coach, nurse, parent, young leader) and the individual they serve who is challenged by DD. The recipients of this award will exemplify the progress that can be made with investments from loving caretakers.

Special Awards:

The GCSS “GOLDIE” for Distinguished Community Service and Leadership will be presented to an outstanding established (above 35 years old) leader in the community. This award recipient has tirelessly served the community with volunteer hours, advocacy or financial support.

The GCSS “GOLDIE” for the Best Young Community Advocate will be presented to an emerging leader and advocate. Nominees will be 35 or younger, and will have partnered with an individual challenged by DD to help lead an inspired life.

THE NOMINATION PROCESS:

Each category will have a male and female winner. An appointed committee will review each candidate and the top three finalists will be notified of their nomination. The winner of each category will be announced at the Golden Goals Awards Banquet. To be eligible to receive an award, the recipient must be diagnosed with a developmental disability. Awards are open to the community; individuals do not have to be associated with GCSS. All nominees are welcomed to invite family and friends to the Golden Goals Awards.
